TOP TIPS

Read the information you are provided with in the preparation phase slowly and carefully.

Make notes in list form that will act as memory joggers when you meet the role actor in part two of the exercise.

Take your notes from the preparation phase with you and use them.

Use the information you are given in the activity room to check the details, if necessary.

Do not make assumptions based on the role actor’s racial origin or sex.

Listen to the role actor and respond to what he or she says.

Do not write during the 90-second interval or when you meet the role actor.

Give the role actor time to say his or her opening line when you enter the room.

Use open rather than closed questions.

If you finish before the end of the five minutes, recap on what you have asked the role actor, his or her responses and the agreed actions.
